Tiramisu, chocolate/tan dapple long hair, came to us from Louisiana
in 2008. From the beginning Tir was always a lover and required to always be the center of attention. If one of the other
girls were getting love and affection, Tir would subtly nuzzle her nose up under your hand so you would be petting her instead.
She had the best demeanor, calm and laid back, we were never worried about bringing her somewhere and her acting out, every
person who ever met her thought she was beautiful and a joy to have around. She has produce such lovely pups who have brought
so much joy to their families' lives.
What happened
that caused Tir to leave much too soon is the prime example of why we have all our pups go as pets and are never to be bred.
Tir was pregnant with her 4th litter and her belly was much larger than it typically was so Moriah took her in for an xray
to find out how many pups she would be having. The xray showed 6 possibly 7 pups; the vet said they looked small and the 1st
pup was inline perfectly for delivery. Because it was her 4th litter, the pups were small, and the 1st was on track, the vet
felt Tir would be fine. Tir started to nest one night and Moriah expected her to have her pups, she checked on her every couple
of hours, but still no pups. Tir was always calm, just resting and showing no signs of distress, so Moriah didn't think
anything of it. Early afternoon the following day Tir couldn't walk and her belly was very distended so Moriah rushed
her to the Emergency vet because she knew something was wrong. Even with this, Tir was calm and loving, just giving kisses,
still not heavily panting, whining or whimpering, no signs of serious distress. Upon examination from the vet, it was thought
the 1st pup was breach (backwards) and likely she ruptured her uterus and the rest of the pups were likely dead too; she would
need immediate surgery and to be spayed. Although all this information was a shock, there was no hesitation about what to
do. "I don't care, just save my girl." Moriah and Brent gave Tir kisses and loves and expected to see her in
a few hours after surgery.
Within 5 minutes of going back
for surgery, the vet called them from the registration area, Tir was gone. It was the most gut wrenching horrible feeling
ever, we were truely devastated. It made no sense, she was just there and was acting completely like her normal self, this
was her 4th litter, she'd NEVER had any problems before, we'd had other girls have 6 pups without any help from us
and no complications. How could our Tir really be gone?
Moriah
called Lorina to tell her what had happened, she too was shocked and crushed. We talked about how maybe she would get the
rest of the girls fixed and be done with Huck-A-Pups. But talking with families of our past pups, ironically getting more
and more updates, and talking with families waiting for pups to come from us, we decided to keep going. We are going to adjust
some of our birthing practices to assure this never happens again.
This is exactly why we do not allow our pups to ever be bred, we would never want the chance for any of our
families to go through this.
We loved our Tir
with all our hearts, she was one of a kind and she will never be forgotten.
