FAQs
Are
your dogs registered?
Yes
our dogs are all registered with American Kennel Club (AKC). Our male is DNA certified with AKC.
What is limited registration?
Does it mean you don’t give papers with the puppy?
AKC and some other registries (for
both cats and dogs) have made options in registering puppies. “Unlimited Registration” or “Full Registration”
means the puppy can be entered in a dog show and it can be bred to another “fully registered” dog and produce
registerable puppies.
The
other option for registering puppies is “Limited Registration” sometimes referred to as “pet papers”
or “pet registration”. The puppy or dog that is registered under limitations simply means there are some
limitations to the dog shows it can enter and it cannot reproduce registerable puppies.
Why is there a difference in price?
Is limited registration lower quality?
A
puppy sold with limited registration in no way means the dog is lower quality. We feel that a person that simply wants
a puppy as a pet and not for breeding or show should not have to pay as high a price as a person that wants to eventually
breed the dog. We seldom sell puppies with full and unlimited registration. We simply would rather see our puppies
go as a loving house pet rather than a breeding dog. Even if that means a lower price.
Of course not all people that want
a puppy to eventually breed will not provide a good home. But it has been our experience (since breeding dachshunds
and 10 years of showing and breeding Himalayan cats) that an animal that is not altered and is used for breeding runs the
risk of going from home to home producing babies until it is too old to breed. Then often it is sent to a rescue or
shelter.
Also
having worked many years in animal rescue I noticed that small breed dogs that were already spayed or neutered were much more
likely to find a home quickly than unaltered animals. Our hope is that none of our puppies ever end up in a shelter
or homeless so we will be very careful about ever selling a puppy with full registration.
Currently we have 3 options for our puppies in relation
to registration.
·
All
of our puppies come with the following paperwork:
·
A pedigree (the “family tree” that tells the names and other
information about the puppy’s ancestors)
·
Health
records (gives dates of vaccinations as well
as worming and other info)
·

·

· Option 1 - No Registration Papers
With this option you can get your
puppy for the stated price minus $25.00 (example that puppy costs $400.00 - $25.00 = $375.00). We do this as it
costs us money to register a litter and many of the people that get our puppies don’t care about papers and never send
them in anyway.
· Option 2 - Pet Registration Papers
This is limited registration and
you would get a registration application from AKC signed by us and you can send it in to AKC with a $20.00 fee and then you
will have a dog with limited registration.
· Option 3 - Full Registration Papers
If
you want a dog that you can show or breed please contact us and we will discuss this option. As is the norm in dog (and
cat) breeding, the price for a puppy that has unlimited registration is much higher than that for a pet.
What do you feed your dogs?
We
feed a mixture of Iams Smart Puppy and Eukanuba Small Breed Puppy. We send small amounts of both so you have time to
pick some up. If you want to change or your vet has a recommendation to change just do it slowly.
Are your dogs good with children?
Yes.
They are raised with a 3 year old and lots of older kids around to visit often. Having said that all children and dogs
should be supervised because accidents happen and with dogs this small they could easily be injured by a playful child.
Do
you crate train?
All
of our adults are crate trained and we usually start the puppies with getting used to a crate at a young age. There
are numerous reasons to crate train all dogs. Please go to the “Links” page and check out the link to info
on crate training.
Do
your puppies have shots?
Our
puppies begin vaccinations at 6 weeks of age and are routinely vaccinated thereafter. Your puppy will need boosters
but will be “up to date” when you get him or her.
Do you have references?
Please go to our "Past Huck-A-Pups" page to see pictures of past puppies and read some testamonials.
Do you offer stud service?
We would
consider it, please email with info on your female and when she would be in heat.
If you have any other questions please email us.
